UNDERSTANDING THE DIGITAL CAMERA

Cameras have advanced greatly since the days of simply “pointing and shooting”.   Even the smallest camera has a lot more capability than most photographers are aware of.  In this workshop, we will discuss how a camera works,  and the difference between SLR and point and shoot cameras We will spend time negotiating the menus and options of the student’s individual digital camera.  THE STUDENT MUST BRING CAMERA AND MANUAL

TAKE YOUR CAMERA OFF AUTOMATIC

Today’s cameras have automatic exposure settings that will give  the photographer an appropriate exposure in most situations.  However, there are situations when one wants to override the automatic settings and control the shutter speed and aperture or create special effects.  We will discuss aperture and shutter speeds and other factors like ISO that affect getting a more correctly exposed image.  Appropriate for SLR camera owners.  BRING CAMERA AND MANUAL.

CREATING BETTER PHOTOGRAPHS: COMPOSITION AND DESIGN

So often our photos don’t look like what we saw in real life.  In this workshop we will discuss ways to create photographs in the camera that more closely resemble what we saw.  We will also discuss what makes a pleasing photograph rather than just a snapshot. This includes composition-just what goes into creating a pleasing image. Photography literally means to “write with light” so we will discuss how to work with natural light.  Hints on people photography will be shared.

 iPHONE/iPAD PHOTOGRAPHY

The camera on the iphone is extremely handy  and the pictures are even good!  However, this camera has many more features than many people are aware of.  And the apps!  There are apps to boost a camera's performance, apps to help you find sunrise and sunset and apps to create effects on the photos.  This class will focus on  how to use the camera to its fullest capacity and demonstrate some of the more common photography apps.  While the class will focus on the iphone; info will be applicable to other smart phones as well.  BRING IPHONE  OR IPAD FULLY CHARGED.

CREATING AN ARTISTIC IMAGE

In this workshop we will discuss various techniques that create artistic images rather than a documentary photograph.   This workshop is designed for those who wish to learn “in-camera” techniques versus those done in photoshop.  We will discuss techniques like zooming, multiple images, panning and night photography.
